Last week Virginians for Fair Elections launched their YES campaign for redistricting here in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Their Core Communications Guidance includes these "Topline Frames:"
-
Free and fair elections are the cornerstone of our democracy, but right now, they are under threat. This amendment gives Virginians the power to level the playing field, preserve fair representation, and protect our democracy for our kids and grandkids.
-
No one wanted to take this step, but Donald Trump directed MAGA-controlled states to take the unprecedented step of drawing new congressional maps to rig the midterm elections, and Virginians now face a real risk of having their voices diminished.
-
With so many other states trying to stack the deck, Virginia must act to restore fairness in the upcoming congressional elections — while ensuring Virginia voters have the final say and can review proposed congressional district maps before deciding how to vote.
-
This amendment is a temporary, emergency exception that gives Virginians a crucial voice and meets the needs of the current moment, while ensuring Virginia’s bipartisan redistricting process will resume after the 2030 census.
Additionally, they offered three actions that we can take right now to help build the momentum we need and spread the word:

"Defend institutions.
It is institutions that help us preserve decency. They need our help as well. Do not speak of 'our institutions' unless you make them yours by acting on their behalf. Institutions do not protect themselves. They fall one after another unless each is defended from the beginning. So choose an institution you care about—a court, a newspaper, a law, a labor union—and take its side."
