Why you need to rework your resolution now, even if you're crushing it.
Fatherly Daily
Jan. 22, 2026

We’re two-thirds of the way through January meaning if you’re one of those who pledged to make a change in 2026, you’re probably struggling. You might be counting the days down to the end of Dry January or have given up on that ban of sugar in your diet. Maybe you’re skipping gym days or finding yourself attached to your screens again, even after trying out that smartphone lock box.

Statistically-speaking, most folks who made a resolution have either dropped it by now or are about to. So what? The point of change is not the hard-line principal but the desire for improvement — for feeling better, having more control, or maybe setting a good example. You can break the rules, sometimes with great frequency, and still accomplish this. Here, we offer some motivation. Will you progress? Will you regress? Will you need to revisit the pledge? To all these, the answer is almost certainly yes. But January comes around every year — and a fresh start will always be there. Maybe you’ll build a good habit in the meantime.
