How can state and local human services agencies improve program coordination in today’s federal policy landscape?
Recent federal policy changes to human services programs, like the new eligibility requirements in Medicaid and the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program from the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, make improved coordination essential for families who qualify for multiple benefits. Coordinating human services systems improves accuracy and efficiency, offers better customer service, and reduces duplicated work, but it also presents challenges for agencies.
To help states and localities address these coordination challenges, the Urban Institute developed a comprehensive, user-friendly toolkit for human services administrators. The toolkit guides agencies through developing coordinated, actionable plans that align multiple programs and improve families’ experiences in accessing their benefits.
This resource helps agencies identify how they can coordinate across programs and better serve their customers in an ever-changing policy environment.
