I’m Angus King III, a Democrat running for governor here in the great state of Maine. I’m starting this Substack to share more about my campaign, what I stand for, and what we can accomplish together for Maine. For starters, I’m a dad, an outdoorsman, a builder, an innovator who has worked in clean energy and affordable housing, and a Mainer committed to making things better for the people of this great state. I was born in Skowheagan and grew up in Topsham, working summers as a lobsterman, a carpenter, and a cook. And today, I’m grateful that my own kids have grown up here too, learning to fish and hike and work hard themselves. But like you, I worry whether they will be able to get good jobs and build their lives here. And I know many families are feeling like they’re falling behind, with fewer opportunities tomorrow than they had yesterday. But “impossible” is not a word I have ever accepted. That’s how I built a renewable energy company that now turns cow manure into energy, heating thousands of homes and businesses here without adding costs for Mainers. That’s how I built solar and wind projects that churn out hundreds of megawatts of clean energy. And that’s how I built thousands of affordable homes for working families across the country. My career hasn’t been in politics. I’ve been building things that solve big problems and help people and our state. And right now, everything we care about is at risk, and what we’ve been doing just isn’t working. It’s time to try something different and build something better. That’s why I’m running for governor: to build a better Maine. Unlike what we’re seeing in Washington today, I don’t believe that simply breaking things delivers the best results. Instead, you do it by bringing people together in common cause, with a focus on getting things done. I believe Mainers are full of good ideas to create more opportunities and a better life for our kids, and I’m excited to work with anyone who shares that goal. The good news? As I’ve traveled across the state, I’ve met so many people who are dedicated to that same cause, and stand ready to make a difference together. I’m running for governor to help make that happen. Mainers deserve a leader who understands the challenges families face, and will fight for them to lower costs, create good jobs, and bring people together to find solutions. It won’t be easy or happen overnight. But I can promise you this: I will always fight for what’s right for the people of Maine, no matter who tries to stand in the way. In Maine. In Washington. Or anywhere else. Thank you for any support you can give. I’m grateful for your support as we work to build a better Maine together. Thank you, Angus King III Angus King III is free today.
