This week, at the Davos summit, I am watching the President and his minions rip the post-World War II order apart with reckless saber-rattling. And Congress is completely asleep at the wheel.

In fact, it’s worse than that. While the administration is in Switzerland, threatening our allies and dismantling the alliances that keep our country prosperous, the U.S. Senate isn't even in session. It’s as if the legislative branch has ceased to exist entirely.

The collapse of the American-led global order could decimate our state. Our family farms depend on stable international markets and fair trade. Our security depends on the NATO alliances that are currently being treated like a protection racket. When we abandon our allies and replace the rule of law with the whims of "tough guy" rhetoric, we lurch toward a precipice that will take us decades or longer to recover from.

Where is Mike Rounds? He is a senior member of the Senate Armed Services Committee. He knows exactly how dangerous this is and how badly it will hurt our state. He knows that a world without American leadership is a world where our enemies thrive, and our friends suffer. Yet, his silence is absolute. He has chosen party-line compliance over the security of the republic.

I am running as an Independent, and I pledge to fight to reclaim the Senate’s authority over war and peace, and I will never let a President—of either party—sleepwalk us into a global catastrophe while Congress takes a vacation.
