The crisis between the U.S. and Greenland is escalating as Donald Trump ramps up his threats to take over the territory, warning that the U.S. needs to for "security purposes."1
And Greenland's prime minister is bracing the country for conflict, telling residents and authorities to prepare themselves, warning that a military conflict "can’t be ruled out."2
Meanwhile, Greenlandic politicians like Tillie Martinussen are slamming the administration, calling out the greed motivating Trump's actions and Greenlanders' inability to be bought. "We wouldn’t give up free health care, we wouldn’t give up free education, we wouldn’t give up being a part of Europe, we wouldn't give up on our sovereignty."3
All of this is happening as Trump also sows chaos domestically, sending thousands of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents to Minnesota to terrorize residents and readying active-duty military to be weaponized against the American people. We have to stand up and fight back against Trump's egregious power grabs, whenever and wherever they occur.
The people of Greenland oppose a U.S. takeover, and so do everyday Americans. Will you join the more than 55,000 MoveOn members denouncing any attempt to seize Greenland?
France is talking with allied countries on how to respond if Trump moves forward with his plans to take control of the country by force.4 And Trump's response? Threats to impose tariffs on countries who dare to interfere.5

The people of Greenland deserve better than to have their lives and freedoms be reduced to a political bargaining chip for another country’s resources and wealth.

Donald Trump is renewing his threats to take over Greenland. Sign the petition to show solidarity with the people of Greenland and say NO to this blatant power grab!

Emboldened by his unlawful and shocking operation in Venezuela, Donald Trump and his MAGA loyalists are escalating threats against other countries, including Greenland. And his motivation? Just like in Venezuela, to exploit the island and its residents due to its location and mineral resources.
Top Trump aide Stephen Miller—one of the cruel orchestrators of Trump's awful Muslim ban and inhumane child-separation policies—has been laying the groundwork for a Greenland takeover, asserting, "Nobody is going to fight the United States militarily over the future of Greenland."6
We need to take the Trump administration's statements seriously. He has reportedly been "obsessed" with Greenland since his first term.7 And no matter the excuses he makes, we know where his interests lie–making himself and his billionaire buddies even richer.
This is what happens when power-hungry people like Trump are not held accountable for their illegal and unconstitutional actions—they take silence as permission and bullishly wreak more chaos and havoc. We have to make our opposition unified and loud so we can’t be ignored.

Greenland Prime Minister Jens-Frederik Nielsen made it clear earlier this year when Trump initially threatened to take over the territory: "We don't belong to anyone else. We decide our own future.”8 She emphasized, "Greenland belongs to the Greenlanders," a sentiment that has been echoed by European allies who released a statement this week opposing Trump’s annexation threats.9,10
The people of Greenland deserve to have true representation and freedom—not to be treated as political pawns, passed around from one imperialist power grab to the next.

Trump's plan to take over Greenland—by force, if necessary—would be devastating for the people of Greenland. But it also is completely out of step with the American people, the majority of whom oppose it.11
Meanwhile, a record number of Americans are struggling under mounting medical debt due to our broken health care system.12 Families are worried about affording everyday necessities. Trump has done nothing to improve the lives of the American people. His administration has sown chaos, taken a bulldozer to the programs and funding people desperately need, and put the livelihoods of everyday people in peril.
And now, instead of focusing on making things better for the people they were elected to represent, Trump and MAGA Republicans are instead starting completely unnecessary conflicts with previously allied nations like Denmark and Greenland.13
It's reckless, irresponsible, and downright dangerous.
