People are scared, john.
In cities nationwide, ICE is operating with impunity. Masked officers are hiding their identities, enacting raids without warrants, breaking windows and pulling people out of their cars, tearing families apart, and leaving our communities shaken.
And in Minneapolis, that fear turned deadly with the lethal shooting of Renee Good, a U.S. citizen, by an ICE officer with unchecked power. It didn’t stop there. We’ve seen other violent interactions. ICE is stirring up chaos and making our streets, particularly in Minneapolis, dangerous. They're even putting local police in danger!
I want to be absolutely clear about something: the Trump Administration is the one allowing this to happen.
They could stop these aggressive tactics. Instead, they stand by and make excuses while ICE detains American citizens and immigrants who are here legally without transparency, without training, without rules, and without consequences. The result has been terror and tragedy on the ground for immigrants, for American citizens, and for entire neighborhoods that no longer know who is knocking at their door or whether the law will protect them.
This approach is destroying the trust between communities and law enforcement.
Trust between neighbors and their government.
And trust that the people in power are acting in our best interests.
I've been hearing from people across our state and district, and right now it's clear that even immigrants who are in the U.S. legally are living in fear. And we should all be concerned about which group(s) will be targeted next.
ICE must be held accountable. Officers must identify themselves. Masks need to be banned. Warrants must be obtained and presented. The agency must be demilitarized and required to follow the law—just like everyone else.
And the politicians who enabled this chaos must be held accountable, too.
If you agree, add your name: We must hold ICE accountable and ensure they are abiding by the law.
In solidarity,
— Kim
