John,
What happened this past Sunday in St. Paul should stop every church-going American cold. A mob forced its way into a church during a Sunday worship service — during prayer — intimidating families, elderly parishioners, and children while shouting political slogans. This was not peaceful protest. It was an invasion of a sanctuary. In a recent letter to its members nationwide, CatholicVote said it plainly: disrupting a church service is not protest — it is a crime. They are right. And it should alarm anyone who believes the First Amendment still matters.
The very first freedom protected in our Constitution is the free exercise of religion. Our Founders placed it first for a reason.
When people storm a sanctuary to intimidate worshippers, they are violating civil rights and crossing a line our nation was founded to defend. As a former Sheriff, I know the difference between lawful protest and lawlessness. As a candidate for Congress, I also know this: when leaders refuse to enforce the law, these attacks spread. Silence from those in power becomes permission for the next one.
If a church can be invaded during prayer in Minnesota today, it can happen anywhere tomorrow. Our nation was founded on the belief that Americans could worship freely, without fear or intimidation. Protecting that freedom is not optional. It is a constitutional duty.
If you believe churches should remain protected ground, if you believe the First Amendment still means what it says, I ask you to stand with me today.
Your contribution helps put constitutional conservatives in Congress who will defend religious liberty and enforce the law without fear or favor.
Respectfully,
