Dear John,

We have all seen the terror the Trump administration has sown in our communities across the nation, from Los Angeles to Chicago, Portland to Minneapolis, and right here in our own neighborhoods. And, today, we took the fight to protect immigrant New Yorkers to Albany.

The NYIC gathered hundreds of our members from across the state for our annual Member Congress. We came together to strategize and launch our legislative agenda aimed at securing vital protections and rights for New York’s immigrant communities.

We marched to the Capitol, urging Albany lawmakers to join us in building a more inclusive and equitable New York—one that serves us all, newcomers and longtime New Yorkers alike.

Elected officials and allies spoke out at the Million Dollar Staircase to make clear that we will not rest until action is taken on our urgent priorities:

  • Guaranteeing the right to counsel for all immigrants in New York during deportation hearings through the Access to Representation Act and BUILD Act, the first act of its kind in the nation, along with $175 million in the state budget for urgent legal and social services.

  • Passing the New York for All Act to bar law enforcement from collaborating with ICE and Border Patrol, an essential law that will protect thousands of families.

State lawmakers must act swiftly to pass these crucial bills that will protect millions of New Yorkers. Together, we are making our voices heard in support of these bills this legislative session. Join us in our fight!

In solidarity,

Murad Awawdeh
