Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament

Continued US threats towards the sovereignty of Greenland are increasing pressure on the British government to stand up to Trump’s aggressive ‘America first’ strategy. Yet again, Britain’s so-called ‘special relationship’ with the US is rightly being challenged, including Britain’s dependence on the US for its nuclear weapons systems. Following calls by political leaders like Zack Polanski, new polling has found that over half of the public are in favour of cutting military ties with the Trump administration by shutting down US bases in Britain if the US invades Greenland.

CND has long called for these NATO bases to be shut down as they are integral to Washington’s global nuclear infrastructure and war machine. RAF Lakenheath now hosts US B61-12 nuclear bombs and nuclear-capable F-35As. RAF Fairford hosts US spy drones and nuclear-capable B2 bombers. RAF Mildenhall has been a vital stopping off point for US arms on their way to fuel Israel’s genocide in Gaza, while RAF Croughton and RAF Menwith Hill are key spy and missile defence hubs.

Starmer’s decision to buy US nuclear-capable fighter jets only ties Britain all the more closely to Trump’s reckless leadership. In our upcoming webinar, ‘Stopping Trump’s global war and new nuclear dangers,’ we will be discussing how Britain’s nuclear expansion fits into Trump’s war drive and how we can build the mass movement against it.

Take action: Call on the Foreign Secretary to push for the extension of New START Treaty

At a time when nuclear risks are higher than at any point since the Cold War, a vital arms control treaty is set to expire. The New START Treaty, which puts limitations on US and Russian strategic nuclear weapons could end next month. If this is allowed to happen, we face the real prospect of no limits at all on the world’s two largest nuclear arsenals.

As a nuclear-armed state, Britain has clear obligations under the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty to pursue disarmament in good faith. Rather than sitting on the sidelines, the government could show leadership and use its diplomatic influence to push for the US and Russia to extend New START.

You can help us by writing to the Foreign Secretary. It’s quick, easy, and makes a difference — especially when messages come from people across the country. You can find a suggested letter template below.

National march for Palestine: Saturday 31 January

Last weekend, Donald Trump announced details of his so called ‘Board of Peace,’ a disgraceful plan to further entrench Israeli occupation and control in Gaza. Among those on the ‘Executive Council’ include US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner, and former British Prime Minister Tony Blair, who oversaw the illegal invasion of Iraq which led to the deaths of over 1 million Iraqis. There will be no Palestinian representation on either the Board or the Council, which will oversee the reconstruction of Gaza following Israel’s genocide and destruction of the city. However, Trump is offering permanent seats on the Board to any leader willing to pay the £1 billion fee.

Rather than ensuring peace the region, Trump’s Board is cementing Israel’s occupation and fragmentation of Palestinian land. CND and the Palestine Coalition will be marching on Saturday, 31 January in our first national demonstration of 2026, to demand that Keir Starmer and the British government reject these plans and any invitation for Britain to join this shambolic organisation that rejects international law.

CND’s Winter Appeal: Support our vital work

2026 is shaping up to be an extremely busy year for CND’s campaigns and your support is vital for us to meet the challenges we face. We’re over halfway to our target for this year’s Winter Appeal. A massive thank you to all those who have contributed so far. If you haven’t already, please consider supporting us with a donation. This will allow us to continue organising national demonstrations at key nuclear bases, lobby MPs to speak out against nuclear expansion and the war drive, support local groups, and help us reach the next generation of supporters.
