[link removed] [[link removed]] John,
Democracy isn’t just about elections.
It’s about our most fundamental freedoms: the right to speak, to assemble, and to vote without fear.
Right now, those rights are under attack.
ICE has gone far beyond targeted enforcement. We’ve seen excessive force used against peaceful protesters, legal residents, and U.S. citizens detained without cause, and random, fear-inducing operations across Minneapolis and the state. It’s gotten so serious that a federal judge had to step in.
That’s not normal. And it’s not acceptable.
Here’s what worries me most: when one fundamental right is trampled, the others are never far behind.
Do we really believe that those willing to violate the First Amendment, to silence speech and intimidate peaceful assembly, will suddenly show restraint when it comes to the right to vote?
I don’t.
That’s why I’m actively working to keep polling places free from intimidation in the upcoming elections. It’s why I’m pushing back against federal demands for private voter data. And it’s why I’m standing up to threats to ban voting by mail.
Democracy requires vigilance. Especially now.
If you believe these rights are worth defending, I hope you’ll stand with me today.
Thank you for believing in this work,
Steve
