** Join the IEB + ISF Senate team for our meeting with Sen. Schiff
------------------------------------------------------------
It's time to recharge our engagement efforts focused on our two US Senators in California. Especially in light of the escalating insanity of the lawless Trump regime. We have a scheduled meeting with Sen. Schiff’s DC staff tomorrow, Thursday Jan 22nd at 11 AM, jointly with Indivisible East Bay.
Our asks and messages are stronger if we show up in numbers, and the Senator’s staff see all of our faces. It’s also a really good way to get to understand how the political sausage is made. So, if you’ve never been to a meeting with legislative staff, this is a great opportunity. We welcome you to join us.

The event will be at 4 PM on Saturday, Feb 7 at Wine Down SF (685 Folsom St). Join us to make buttons, write postcards, fold zines, make friends, and talk activism at our casual meetup with beverages and snacks. A patio is available.

** Our Congressmembers must stand on principle: Do Not Fund ICE’s Lethal Attacks
------------------------------------------------------------
For months, ICE and other federal agents have escalated their operations in neighborhoods across the country, resulting in increasingly disturbing scenes and illegal conduct. Our communities have been left reeling as agents have arrested U.S. citizens, dragged children from their beds in the middle of the night in zip-ties, smashed car windows, and even driven away from an arrest scene with a toddler still in the backseat. Now, ICE agents have tragically killed without just cause a beloved community member in Minneapolis. And yet, the administration has the audacity to ask Congress for even more money to detain and deport people.
Yesterday, the House Appropriations Committee released a 1059 page draft Homeland Security funding bill ([link removed]) and the Democratic Ranking Member Rosa DeLauro issued a statement ([link removed]) on it. Based on our preliminary reading of the statement and a search of the bill, it seems that it will do little to defund ICE, while failing to prevent US citizens from being detained or deported, and doing nothing to stop or restrict ICE operations.
We demand a bill that puts serious restrictions on ICE, ends its dragnet raids, and doesn’t add a penny to its already bloated budget. And we ask you to demand the same.
Renee Good’s killing on January 7, is part of a broader pattern of unchecked violence, impunity, and abuse carried out by federal immigration enforcement agencies against our communities. We can't wait around while ICE harms more people. We demand that our Congress members stand on principle and stop playing fiscal games when people’s lives are at risk.
Call your Representative and tell them ([link removed]) : Stop funding ICE’s lethal attacks!
** Leave a Public Comment against federal bans on trans healthcare: Deadline Feb 17
------------------------------------------------------------
Two Health and Human Services (HHS) rules are in a public comment period that could cause serious harm to trans healthcare. The deadline is February 17 to leave a public comment ([link removed]) , and we ask you to do so for both rules.
One of the rules will bar medical care for trans youth, and the other will bar medicare and medicaid funding for hospitals that provide gender-affirming care.
The right likes to frame anti-trans initiatives as a “think of the children” anti-mutilation campaign, but in fact is a crusade to disallow public life for all trans people, children and adults. Not being able to transition can have a devastating effect on trans people, and that harm is both the result and the intent of the government pushing against gender-affirming care.
On top of this, limits on gender-affirming healthcare also affect cis people who may need hormonal interventions for other health problems.
We support gender-affirming care for children and adults and stand with our beloved trans community members. We ask you to join us in stopping disingenuous, bigoted attacks on healthcare.
Leave public comments ([link removed]) on the two HHS rules banning trans care, and read more on our blog ([link removed]) .
** Indivisible SF speech at the January 20, 2026 Free America protest
------------------------------------------------------------
Yesterday, Tuesday, January 20, was the anniversary of Trump’s inauguration and the beginning of the sixth year of the Trump Regime.
The only way to get through three more years of this is together, in solidarity and in action. One of our members spoke at the Free America protest Tuesday evening to exhort the crowd to join up and join in.

** Indivisible SF met with Senator Scott Wiener
------------------------------------------------------------
Last week, members of Indivisible SF met with State Senator Scott Wiener. We shared our concerns about protecting at-risk groups, the environment, and the importance of progressive taxation. It was a very productive conversation, with the Senator providing many insights from his legislative experience.
Our State and Local team meets regularly with representatives at all levels of local and state government. If you’re interested in attending a meeting, please email

** In Memory of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.: A Winter Soldier
------------------------------------------------------------
Last Thursday, January 15, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. would have been 97 years old. American history is a history of social change pushed up from below by mass movements of committed citizens. Abolitionists. Suffragettes. Labor organizers. Civil Rights workers. Environmentalists. Liberated women, proud gays and courageous immigrants. Yet of all our many public holidays, only one honors that kind of social-justice warrior — Martin Luther King, Jr. Day celebrated on Monday, January 19.
Read on our blog ([link removed]) , a remembrance of Dr. King as a Winter Soldier, written by @Sojourner, an ISF member who worked for him during the Civil Rights Movement.
