2026 started with a bang!
Energy news is loading up my inbox. I’m particularly interested in the forecast for energy demand to meet our needs as a country, to compete globally and the role that Washington plays in meeting that demand.

Right now, our focus is on permitting reform–particularly so following the successful passage of the SPEED Act in the House before the holiday break. Our team continues to meet with lawmakers and key staff, as well as planning our congressional fly-ins with our clean energy partners, to get this must-pass bill to President Trump’s desk.
Coupled with our renewed efforts to advance comprehensive permitting reform, CRES and CRES Forum are also planning an engaging slate of events throughout 2026.
A few highlights to note for your calendar:
- TODAY: CRES’ annual “Welcome Back to Congress” event at the Capitol Hill Club. We already have an exciting group of members planning to attend, and we hope to see you there! Please RSVP if you haven’t already.

Op-Ed: Rep. Gabe Evans and Heather Reams: Modernize permitting to meet our energy needs
CRES President and CEO Heather Reams penned an op-ed in Colorado Politics with Rep. Gabe Evans (R-Colo.), who sits on the House Energy and Commerce Committee. This piece focused on the need for permitting reform and highlighted Reams’ and Evans’ perspectives on how modernizing our permitting frameworks could improve the nation’s national security.
Op-Ed: Entering the New Year with Bipartisan Permitting Momentum
CRES President and CEO Heather Reams penned an op-ed in RealClearEnergy focused on the importance of permitting reform. Reams touched on the success of the SPEED Act passing the House of Representatives and called for the Senate to take swift action. She also discussed the importance of other legislation to streamline our infrastructure approval process, modernize data tracking, and bring the country’s permitting frameworks into the 21st century.
