Robbinston - Jan. 21, 2025 - The Maine Department of Transportation (MaineDOT) will begin work on a project in Robbinston to replace an aging steel multi-plate culvert under Route 1 with a new 120-foot precast NEBT girder bridge. To support this work, crews will construct a temporary detour bridge to maintain traffic during construction.

The project work also consists of removing the old Route 1 concrete slab bridge, installing drainage, adding guardrail, placing heavy riprap along the project area, and paving.

During construction, traffic will be shifted to a single-lane detour controlled by portable mechanical signals. Drivers should expect alternating one-way traffic and occasional delays. Flaggers will be on site as needed to manage construction activities and equipment movement.

This project is designed to improve the structural condition of the crossing, enhance stream flow and tidal connectivity, and support MaineDOT's broader effort to create a more consistent corridor along historic coastal Route 1 which will benefit motorists, pedestrians, and cyclists alike.

The project is expected to be completed by September 2027. The contractor is Reed & Reed, Inc. of Woolwich, Maine, with a contract amount of $7,396,995.
