Message from Congressman Scott Fitzgerald
Friends,
Good evening, and happy Tuesday!
Last week, I introduced the Middle Class Home Tax Elimination Act, legislation that would eliminate capital gains taxes on the sale of primary residences.
Eliminating the capital gains tax on the sale of primary residences is a necessary step to help middle-class families keep more of what they’ve built through years of hard work and homeownership.
Families shouldn’t be penalized by the tax code simply because they’ve lived in their homes for years while housing prices increased. This bill restores fairness, reduces market distortions, helps unlock more housing supply for buyers, and brings stability to the housing market.

Rep. Fitzgerald Meets with EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin
Recently, I had a great meeting with EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin. We share many of the same goals, including unleashing American energy and lowering costs for hardworking families. He’s done an incredible job advancing commonsense policies that keep our economy strong and our energy reliable.
Rep. Fitzgerald Speaks in Support of Lowering Costs by Stopping Manipulation of Litigation
I’m proud to support my colleague Rep. Darrell Issa's bill, the Protecting Third Party Litigation Funding from Abuse Act, and urge its passage.
Undisclosed litigation funding can shift control from plaintiffs to silent investors, including foreign actors. This bill requires parties to disclose to the judge who is financing the lawsuit. Transparency protects fairness, American courtrooms, and our national security.
Rep. Fitzgerald Votes to Fund America First National Security Priorities and Eliminate Radical Left Regulations
Recently, I issued the following statements in response to the passage of three critical pieces of legislation: the FY26 Financial Services and General Government and National Security, Department of State, and Related Programs Appropriations Act, the Protecting Prudent Investment of Retirement Savings Act, and the Saving Homeowners from Overregulation With Exceptional Rinsing (SHOWER) Act.
On the FY26 Financial Services and General Government and National Security, Department of State, and Related Programs Appropriations Act:
“This funding package delivers real savings for taxpayers while putting America’s national security first. This bill cuts billions in wasteful spending, reins in a weaponized IRS, and ensures the United States does not send blank checks abroad to nations that wish us harm. By eliminating woke DEI and ‘green’ programs and holding international institutions accountable, this bill upholds the mission of DOGE and strengthens America’s position at home and abroad.”
On the Protecting Prudent Investment of Retirement Savings Act:
“Americans’ retirement savings should be protected, not politicized. The Biden-Harris Administration’s leftist ESG rule put hardworking families at risk by allowing political agendas to override sound investment decisions. This legislation protects retirement savings by ensuring financial institutions make investment decisions based on financial returns, not radical social experiments.”
On the Saving Homeowners from Overregulation With Exceptional Rinsing (SHOWER) Act:
“Americans should decide what showerheads they use in their own homes, not left-wing bureaucrats in Washington. Democrats twisted the law to push an extreme environmental agenda that reduced water pressure and limited consumer choice. The SHOWER Act ends this micromanagement, restores commonsense standards for showerheads, and makes clear that Washington should not control how families live.”
Joined The Dan O’Donnell Show
On Friday, I joined The Dan O'Donnell Show to discuss unrest in Minneapolis, my vote against an Obamacare bailout, and President Trump’s “Great Healthcare Plan.”
