Team,
Renée Good's death at the hands of an ICE officer on January 7th was a national tragedy.
Arizona Republicans' response? Pushing legislation to criminalize protesting ICE while defending the agent who shot her.
Pinal County Attorney Brad Miller — who volunteered to prosecute a Phoenix Democratic senator for sharing ICE alerts on social media — is leading the effort. He's backed by Senate President Warren Petersen, who's running for attorney general, and Rep. John Gillette, a former Illinois sheriff's deputy who resigned after 42 complaints, including multiple for excessive force.
Gillette's message to Arizonans? "ICE are sworn law enforcement officers and you shall not resist. Follow the law — comply, don't die."
This is the same Gillette who said a Democratic congresswoman should be executed for encouraging protests against Trump. The same Gillette who called American Muslims "f*cking savages" who should be deported.
Not one of these Republicans mentioned that Renée Good was a U.S. citizen. Not one called for accountability. Instead, they're criminalizing protests while ICE pepper-sprays U.S. Rep. Adelita Grijalva during a Tucson raid.
This is Arizona Republicans' pattern: defend excessive force, attack accountability, and criminalize dissent.

The same Republicans who tried to impeach judges for ruling against Trump are now pushing to jail protesters for "obstructing" ICE arrests — while defending agents who kill U.S. citizens.
We're holding them accountable and building the infrastructure to elect Democrats who believe government agents should answer to the people, not the other way around.
