One year ago, Donald Trump was signing the first flurry of executive orders of his second term — more than two dozen on that first day.
One of those was an illegal attempt to revoke birthright citizenship. Within 24 hours, we took Trump to court and stopped him in his tracks, securing multiple court orders blocking the executive order from taking effect.
We didn’t stop there. Over the past year, I’ve taken Trump to court 54 times — more than once a week — and we’ve won. Again and again and again.
These lawsuits have had a tremendous impact:
→ We’ve protected more than $188 billion in federal funding for California — money that goes to school programs for our kids, research for our future, medical care for our sick, and infrastructure that keeps our cars driving and planes in the air.
→ We defended constitutional rights like birthright citizenship and the right to vote. We stopped the dismantling of federal agencies like HHS and AmeriCorps.
→ We fought tooth and nail against the illegal federalization and deployment of California National Guard troops — and we prevailed. Today, California’s streets are free from unlawful military occupation.
This is work worth doing, every way you look at it. Our work has a 989,000% return on investment — unheard of even in the best of business deals. We’ve protected services and programs that tens of millions of Californians rely on for their health, their education, and their livelihoods. And we’re not slowing down any time soon.
Over the past year, we’ve seen an overwhelming onslaught of actions from Donald Trump — a sweeping, and often illegal, campaign to remake America.
He moved to build a mass deportation machine and target immigrant communities here in California and around the country. He set his sights on health care and public education. He tried to end reproductive freedom by putting a political target on Planned Parenthood and other clinics that support critical health care for lower income Americans.
Throughout it all, he brazenly, repeatedly, and blatantly violated the law and the United States Constitution.
I was elected Attorney General to defend the rights of the people of California against any and all attacks, no matter where they come from. From greedy corporations making life unaffordable, from Big Pharma and Big Oil, from schemers and fraudsters, from fentanyl traffickers, human traffickers, and gun traffickers. And yes — from our own federal government and our own President.
We’re one year in, and we have three to go. This is just the beginning. But I can promise you this: Every single time the President breaks the law, I will take him to court. And with the law on my side, I will win.
That’s why I’m running for re-election to serve as your Attorney General. I will never stop defending the rights and freedoms of every person who calls this great state home.
But I need your help to keep up this fight. Will you support my re-election campaign with a contribution today? No amount is too small — they all add up to make this work possible.
