John,

It's Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes. I just opened an investigation into Grok — Elon Musk's AI chatbot — for generating sexually explicit and violent content depicting minors.

These reports are deeply disturbing.

Grok is an artificial intelligence tool built into X.com (formerly Twitter) that answers questions and generates images. Users have been generating sexually explicit, violent, and abusive images and videos, including some depicting apparent minors.

Artificial intelligence should never be used to exploit or harm people, especially children.

My office is investigating whether the generation of these images violates Arizona laws, including laws that criminalize the creation of child sexual abuse material. We're also looking at Arizona's law protecting against AI deepfakes, which prohibits the nonconsensual generation of sexual content.

California and the U.K. have also opened investigations into Grok.

Technology companies cannot turn a blind eye when their products are used to cause real-world harm.

Elon Musk is the richest man in the world. He has unlimited resources. He's a close ally of Donald Trump. And he thinks he's above accountability.

But when his AI tool is being used to generate images of child sexual abuse, I don't care how rich or powerful he is. I'm going to investigate.

Taking on the richest man in the world and other powerful interests takes resources. Can you chip in to keep me in this fight?

If you believe you've been harmed or victimized by Grok or any AI chatbot, please reach out to my office. We want to hear from you.

I'll keep fighting to protect children from exploitation — no matter who I have to take on.

Thanks for having my back,
- Kris
