Dear Friend,
Today marks one year since Donald Trump was sworn into office. Since then, Americans have been crushed by the high cost of living. America is far too expensive, and Donald Trump promised to “rapidly bring down costs and prices.” But the facts tell a different story.
Housing is unaffordable, groceries are expensive, utility bills are rising, healthcare costs are skyrocketing, and childcare is out of reach. In fact, a new report from the Joint Economic Committee shows that during Trump’s first year in office, New Jersey families spent $2,060 more on average due to inflation. That’s unacceptable.
Despite his actions, I have stayed focused on what matters most: protecting access to affordable healthcare, defending our seniors and veterans, and making sure our government is working for you. That work is more important now than ever.
Here is an update on what I have been doing for South Jersey:
Demanding Transparency and Accountability from ICE
|
Congressmen Norcross and Conaway visited Joint Base McGuire-Dix Lakehurst to perform their congressional duty of oversight after an announcement that the base may be used as a detention center for undocumented immigrants.
|
Earlier this month, a U.S. citizen was shot and killed in Minnesota by a masked ICE agent. We should not need tragedies like this to know that ICE agents nationwide must wear body cameras, which is why I introduced legislation to require all immigration enforcement officials to do so, just as police officers in New Jersey are already required to do.
Body cameras are about protecting transparency and accountability. This is a straightforward step to build trust and ensure everyone is held to the same standard. You can read more about the legislation here.
I also sent a letter to Secretary Kristi Noem demanding transparency and accountability from our ICE agents after the horrific killing of Renee Good. When federal power is abused and lives are lost, the public deserves the truth.
Celebrating Our Local Officials
|
Congressman Norcross celebrated the swearing-in of our newly elected officials in Camden.
|
In South Jersey, we are lucky to have so many dedicated public servants. My team and I were proud to attend swearing-in ceremonies across the district and thank local leaders for their continued service.
Strong local leadership is the backbone of strong communities, and I am grateful to work alongside officials who are committed to serving and improving the lives of families in South Jersey. We made a lot of progress in 2025, and I am excited to see what is to come in 2026.
Fighting to Raise the Minimum Wage
|
Congressman Norcross speaks on the House floor in support of raising the federal minimum wage.
|
It is an embarrassment that the federal minimum wage has not been raised in over 16 years. Last week, I spoke in favor of raising the federal minimum wage. A fair day’s pay for a hard day’s work is not just a slogan, it's the American value that holds this country together.
I have worked a minimum wage job. I was once a young single dad raising my son while balancing work, family life, and a checkbook. Back then, it was hard. Today, for far too many Americans, it is nearly impossible.
We all know that $7.25 an hour is not a livable wage, especially now that the spending power of a dollar is only a fraction of what it was in 2009.
Last summer, Republicans voted to give tax breaks to billionaires. When will they finally vote to support the American worker?
Introducing the SEPSIS Act
Last April, I was hospitalized with sepsis, and I am grateful to be here today, stronger than ever. Too many families do not get that outcome.
Each year, about 1.7 million people in the United States develop sepsis, and it remains one of the leading causes of death in American hospitals.
That is why I introduced the SEPSIS Act, legislation to improve early detection, strengthen treatment, and reduce preventable sepsis deaths across the country.
With the SEPSIS Act, we can save lives and reduce the devastating toll this condition takes on patients and their loved ones. New Jersey has long been a leader in the fight against sepsis, and this bill builds on that progress to help ensure fewer families ever have to hear that help came too late. Learn more about the bill by clicking here.

Donald Norcross Member of Congress
