Washington, DC - Today, Congressman Van Drew shared his perspective on recent public discussions regarding Greenland and the United States.
"Greenland is an important strategic partner, and a closer relationship could be beneficial for everyone involved," said Congressman Van Drew. "It could strengthen our national security, push back against foreign adversaries in the Arctic, and open the door to economic opportunities, especially when it comes to critical minerals like uranium and iron. That said, the exact shape of any future relationship is something that should be discussed thoughtfully and collaboratively. I do not support military action to make Greenland part of the United States. I also do not believe that force is necessary, appropriate, or realistic. Anything involving Greenland's future must be cooperative. We must respect the people of Greenland, our long-standing relationship with Denmark, and our shared democratic values. What I support is strong, serious, and sustained negotiation, robust diplomacy, and building trust to achieve outcomes that benefit all parties involved."
