John, it’s been
one year since Trump was sworn back into office.
The man lies more than he breathes, but there’s one thing he didn’t lie
about. He said he’d be a dictator on day one. A year later, we’re living
with the consequences of that promise.
From the start, Trump has used his power to settle scores and silence
dissent. He’s gone after anyone who won’t fall in line — targeting
political opponents, attacking news and media outlets, and demanding
loyalty to himself over the Constitution.
He’s excused political violence, rewarded those who tried to overturn an
election, and made it clear that the rules only apply to some — never to
him, MAGA extremists, or his billionaire allies.
He’s ripped away civil rights protections and legitimized discrimination
at the highest levels of government.
He sent federal forces into cities over the objections of local leaders,
dismantled critical federal agencies under the guise of “efficiency,” and
prioritized mass deportations and mass firings that have devastated
families and communities across the country.
This is what authoritarianism looks like,
John. And when people stand up to
it, Trump attacks them.
That’s why Alexandria, Ayanna, Ilhan, and Rashida are constant targets of
his lies, racism, xenophobia, and hate. Not because they’re wrong — but
because they’re effective. Because they refuse to be intimidated. Because
they organize alongside the people and speak truth to power, no matter the
cost.
The Squad isn’t here to make peace with authoritarianism. They’re here to
confront it head-on. They’re fighting for a democracy where working people
actually have power, where our rights aren’t negotiable, and where no one
— not even a president — is above the law. But this fight takes all of us.
