This weekend, I was sworn in as Virginia’s 43rd Lieutenant Governor.

As I took my oath, I pledged to support the Constitutions of the United States and the Commonwealth of Virginia—and to faithfully serve the people who placed their trust in me.
I am deeply honored and profoundly grateful. Nearly two years ago, we launched what many thought was an improbable campaign. It succeeded because of you. Your belief, your work, and your support made this moment possible. From the bottom of my heart: thank you.

I am also proud to be the first Muslim American woman to hold statewide office anywhere in our nation’s history. Virginia is home to people of many faiths, backgrounds, and lived experiences—and this moment reflects the promise of a Commonwealth where everyone belongs and every voice matters.
Now, the work begins.
As Lieutenant Governor, I will bring the real concerns of Virginians—from health care and jobs to affordability and economic security—straight to Richmond, and fight to deliver meaningful legislative progress.
At a time when national leadership is falling short, states like ours must step up. I look forward to serving alongside our newly inaugurated Governor, Abigail Spanberger, a steadfast partner and an outstanding leader for Virginia’s future.
