Hi John,

Did you know California is the biggest agricultural producer in the US? A lot of that is fruit and vegetable production, but the state's top commodity is milk. *California is one of the largest factory farming states in the nation,* with over 80 million animals living in factory farms at any given time, including more dairy cows than any other state.?California also has some of the nation's strongest animal protection laws and the cultural and economic significance to start a huge ripple effect when we push for changes here.

I'm sending this email from Tulare County in the middle of California, which is the largest milk-producing county in the entire nation. I just spent the past 3 days here connecting and training with dozens of DxE organizers from across California, including longtime organizers of chapters like DxE San Diego and new organizers based here in the San Joaquin Valley.

*We are building a base of organizers to spark statewide public action against California's factory farming industry and our power is growing.* This weekend gave us all a huge boost of inspiration and confidence in what we can achieve together.

In just 3 days, we:

* Helped organizers in different parts of the state learn how to *fly drones for the first time* so we can expand our coverage of the industry's cruelty and pollution
* Provided *hands-on practice filming factory farm conditions* and documented dead cows dumped at multiple facilities
* Taught organizers how to *navigate government databases* to research industry data and violations
* Made *specific plans for localized campaigns* that will all build momentum?to end factory farming in California

We've seen disastrous impacts of factory farming in our state, from water shortages ( [link removed] ) in rural communities to the deaths of millions of birds from the spread of avian flu, which also spread to over 70% ( [link removed] ) of all dairy herds in the state and infected multiple dairy workers. Millions of hens are living crowded in warehouses never to step foot outside and hundreds of thousands of baby cows are routinely ripped from their mothers and confined in tiny hutches that California voters thought they banned with Proposition 12.

In 2026, we're committed to giving Californians the power to stand up to factory farms. We will document cruelty and expose how these facilities really operate. We will continue rescuing animals and show the world that these victims are not abstract concepts, but unique individuals. We will build and connect compassionate communities across the state who share our vision of a world where everybody is treated with care. Together, we can lay the groundwork to end factory farming in California, and when California acts, the world follows.

Of all the many things we're taking away from this weekend, one organizer put it best when she said, "What I'm taking away is hope."

In solidarity,
Cassie
