The Department of Marine Resources' (DMR) Fishery Directed Data Program is looking for lobstermen who fish at least a portion of their gear year-round in federal waters and are interested in participating in cooperative research.
The Fishery Direct Data Program partners with industry to collect catch, effort, and biological data in areas that are less consistently sampled by other surveys.
*Information on the Fishery Directed Data Program can be found on the DMR website. [ [link removed] ]*
To collect this data, DMR will train federally permitted lobstermen to collect catch, effort and biological information on lobsters and Jonah crabs in areas where DMR's Lobster Sea Sampling Program has historically collected less data.
The data collected through this program will allow DMR to gain a more complete picture of the portion of the lobster population that is targeted by lobstermen fishing offshore.
Participating fishermen will be provided the necessary equipment and technology to conduct sampling and to record data.
Training takes approximately 1-2 hours and can be done at the time and location of participating fishermen's choosing.
*"Lobstermen who participate in the program will be compensated on a per-sampling session basis, with expectations of between 3-5 hours per month. Fishermen will be compensated up to $1400 per month if all sampling sessions are completed."*
If you are interested in participating, please fill out the form at [link removed] [ [link removed] ]
