Some boast about being ‘self-made men’ on account of their professional status, achievements, or financial portfolio. My name is Mr. Ujima, and while I am proud of my achievements in the civil sector, I won’t venture to say that I am a self-made success.
I wouldn’t be where I am today as a professional if it weren’t for the young men and women who decided to not turn a blind eye to discrimination. The MLFA-funded Constitutional Law Center for Muslims in America (CLCMA) has been one such component on my road to living as a Muslim American and Federal Employee. Their shrewd legal team has been the drum major for justice, consistently assisting me to confront the infringements against my civil liberties by the United States Department of Justice.
I once heard someone say that hope was nothing more than wishful thinking, but I believe that hope is never a waste when you have CLCMA on your team. I say this because hope combined with discipline and targeted action produces results. Charles Swift and Christina A. Jump are keenly aware of this truth and under their guidance, the CLCMA legal team has helped me, along with countless others, displace fear with hope as they advocate for our rights as Muslim Americans, and in my case, as a Federal employee. (Read more about my case here.)
I also want to recognize the generous donors that have put MLFA and CLCMA in a position to fight the battles of Muslims all across America’s courtrooms. Now, I turn to you and ask that you not turn a blind eye to discrimination and to help ensure that Muslims are not left to fight this battle against injustice alone.
