Wake up, folks.
As you read this, Donald Trump's Department of Justice is investigating Minnesota Governor Tim Walz and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey for "obstruction of justice."
In a minute, I am going to ask you to make a contribution to the Democratic Governors Association who is leading the legal defense side of this fight.
Governor Walz asked for our help specifically, and there is nothing more patriotic we can do right now than standing up against abuses of power.
But this is about so much more.
This is about the precedent of weaponizing government to attack political opponents. We've seen it with universities, the media, ActBlue, private sector companies, government officials and more.
There's legal intimidation and the physical intimidation from supporters that follows ... and it's all designed to scare people away from disagreeing with the president or standing in the way of what he wants.
This is textbook authoritarianism and people need to wake up to the threat it poses to our democracy right now and in the future unless we stand up against it.
This moment requires a political strategy and a legal strategy. It requires a plan to shine a light on what is happening for the American people to see and to organize a response.
But it also requires a legal fight in the courts, to slow down Donald Trump's authoritarian march.
That is where we need your help today. Not just to defend Tim Walz against the Department of Justice, but for any governor that may come next. This is serious stuff, and it's why I am humbly asking:
