Here’s an update from our campaign:
** Congressional Stock Trading Ban Passes Committee
------------------------------------------------------------
If you want to trade stocks, you belong on Wall Street, not in Congress.
Last week, I introduced the Stop Insider Trading Act, to ban members of Congress from purchasing stocks. This legislation already has over 80 cosponsors and continues to gain support.

On Wednesday, my bill passed out of committee on a vote of 7 - 4 ([link removed]) . This is the first ban on purchasing stocks that has ever successfully passed out of this House committee.
Leader Scalise and Speaker Johnson have both said that this bill will receive a vote on the floor of the House in the near future.

My bill prohibits members of Congress, their spouses, and their dependent children from purchasing stocks. They also will be required to provide 7-day advanced public notice before selling individual stocks.
If a member violates this law, the penalties will be steep.
For each violation, members will be fined $2,000 or 10% of the value of the stock, whichever is greater. If a member also violates existing insider trading laws, they will face additional criminal penalties.
We need to clean up the mess in Washington. This bill is one step in the right direction.
I joined Dan O’Donnell ([link removed]) to discuss this bill on Monday, listen to our interview here or at the link below. ([link removed])
