John,
Today, we remember the life and legacy of Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., a leader who fought tirelessly to advance civil rights and ensure fairness for all.
Dr. King’s vision of an inclusive democracy is more urgent than ever.
Over the past year, we’ve watched an administration work to roll back decades of progress - eroding rights, undermining our democracy, and putting partisan extremism above the needs of everyday Americans.
I know the road ahead is not easy. But together, I know we can continue to fight for progress - no matter what obstacle Donald Trump or his MAGA cronies put in our way.
This moment calls for us to recommit to Dr. King’s vision - a vision of justice, equality, and a democracy where every voice matters.
As Washington’s first African American U.S. Representative, I carry Dr. King’s legacy with me every day. His words, “The time is always right to do what is right,” guide me as I fight voter suppression, systemic racism, and for healthcare, economic opportunity, and security for all.
Today, let us honor Dr. King’s legacy by standing firm, speaking out, and vowing to work relentlessly to protect the rights and freedoms we hold dear.
I’m committed to this fight, and I need you by my side. Let’s get to work.
Marilyn
