Hi John, it’s Julie Gonzalez.
Today, I’m reflecting on the powerful life and legacy of Martin Luther King Jr., a leader whose unwavering commitment to racial justice has left a lasting impact on our society.
Dr. King reminded us that democracy isn’t just words on a paper, but it requires active struggle to fulfill its promise of justice, equality, and freedom.
While we have made great progress, the truth is that there is still so much to be done.
Our nation is reeling as we grieve the murder of Renee Good at the hands of ICE, working Americans are struggling to make ends meet while corporations make record profits, and our own president is using militarized force to terrorize communities of color.
But this is what gives me hope: John, people like you who are committed to organizing, speaking up, and fighting for justice until the day that we are all liberated.
So today, let us recommit ourselves to that fight to the active struggle of building a nation that finally lives up to its promises.
