Today, we honor Dr. Martin Luther King’s legacy and his dream of an America where equality, justice, and opportunity prevailed for all.
His fight for civil rights reshaped our country and set us on our path towards progress. His memory challenges us to confront the ongoing struggle for racial justice.
We must continue lending our voices in service of a better future for our country. As your Attorney General, I’ve made it a priority to advance racial justice and address racial disparities.
- We created the Maryland Equitable Justice Collaborative, which released a report titled Breaking the 71%, addressing the staggering overrepresentation of Black Marylanders in our prison system and offering real, actionable solutions.
- We established a Civil Rights Division to proactively tackle systemic discrimination in housing, employment, and public accommodations.
- And we launched the Office of Equity, Policy, and Engagement to ensure that fairness and inclusion are woven into the fabric of our legal system.
In recognizing the progress that we’ve made so far, we must commit to the work that remains. Let us honor those who have fought before us by continuing their fight. Let us never forget that the responsibility of creating that more perfect union rests on our shoulders.
Onward,
