In 2026, Dr. King’s historic work to secure the right to vote is more resonant now than ever.

Partisan gerrymandering, voter roll purges, restrictive voter ID laws, and mail-in ballot bans are being pushed by Trump’s Republicans nationwide.

And right here in Texas, we’re seeing the effects: Voters of color have been silenced after the maps were redrawn to eliminate 5 Democratic seats.

I won’t let extremist Republicans rip my community’s voices away. That’s why I’m co-sponsoring the John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act – a historic bill that would protect the right to vote and end racist redistricting practices.
