Today, we celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day. In the spirit of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., today we celebrate his legacy and volunteer.

Today is an opportunity for you to volunteer with the community: like reading to little kids, helping clean up your community, planting trees, or clearing out weeds in rivers and streams. These are all volunteer opportunities I have taken part in during past MLK Jr. days, and I hope you will join me.

Today is also a day to embrace Dr. King's message of the fierce urgency of now. The time to do something right is now. The time to act is now. Whether it is preserving our democracy, ensuring access to affordable health care, ensuring our environment is clean, or fighting climate change.

There is a fierce urgency of now in Northwest Washington and throughout the United States.
