Today, as we honor Martin Luther King Jr., it’s worth asking an uncomfortable question: are we truly honoring his dream, or just remembering it?

Dr. King believed the Civil Rights Movement was meant to move Black Americans from poverty to prosperity, grounded in character, responsibility, and opportunity. Yet one of the foundations that made that progress possible—strong families—has steadily eroded, with devastating consequences for children and communities.

In a new blog published today by Kendall Qualls, we take an honest look at the part of Dr. King’s dream that is rarely discussed, but impossible to ignore if we care about outcomes.

This MLK Day, remembrance isn’t enough.

Families are invited to join Sheila Qualls and the Washington Academy team for an Open House on January 22.

This is an opportunity to tour the school, meet leadership, and learn more about Washington Academy’s approach to Christ-centered, classical learning. Character formation, academic excellence, and a love of learning go hand in hand.

Whether you’re actively exploring school options or simply want to learn more, we’d love to welcome you and answer your questions.
