Dear Friends,
As we honor and reflect on the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., whose vision of justice and equality continues to inspire our commitment to anti-racism and building a more equitable Frederick County, we reflect on his powerful words this MLK Day.
One of my favorite quotes from Dr. King comes from one of his final sermons. He said:
“...everybody can be great, because everybody can serve. You don’t have to have a college degree to serve. You don’t have to make your subject and your verb agree to serve. You don’t have to know about Plato and Aristotle to serve. You don’t have to know Einstein’s theory of relativity to serve. You don’t have to know the second theory of thermodynamics to serve. You only need a heart full of grace, a soul generated by love. And you can be that servant.”
I hope you will take a moment today and recommit yourself to helping others, and please know that I am grateful for the opportunity you have given me to serve Frederick County.
With sincere gratitude,
Jessica Fitzwater
