Friends, it’s Phil.

Over the course of this campaign, you may have already heard me share one particular Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. quote that is meaningful to me and I think of often:

"Darkness cannot drive out darkness, only light can do that; and hate cannot drive out hate, only love can do that."

No email is long enough to encompass the entirety of Dr. King’s leadership, vision, and impact. But I’d like to share a few more pieces of his wisdom today, especially as they relate to what drives this movement we’re building together.

At the Ralph Carr building where I work, there is a powerful quote from Dr. King: "Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere."

As I fight for a better Colorado, I will lead with the spirit that all of us need all of us. That includes fighting against lawlessness from the federal government, abusive practices from irresponsible corporations, and the dangers of climate change, to name just a few specific examples.

Not long before he was murdered, Dr. King famously said, "We shall overcome because the arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends toward justice." My faith teaches that we are all called to action — to repair our world — and to do our part to make the arc bend. This change won’t occur unless we take action. And no person can make it happen alone.

Thank you for being in this fight with us.
