Today, on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day, we pause to honor a leader whose commitment to justice, service, and equality continues to guide us today.

Dr. King taught us that change requires action and care for one another. As he said, "Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that. "

That sentiment is just as important today as it was during the civil rights movement.

I know that this is an uncertain time for many Americans. Dr. King's legacy teaches us that even in difficult times, each of us has the power to make a difference through service, compassion, and standing up for what's right.

Today is a reminder that each of us has a role to play. Service doesn't look the same for everyone. For some, it might mean volunteering or standing up for a neighbor. For others, it might mean simply choosing compassion when it would be easier to look away. Through these acts, big and small, Dr. King's dream lives on.

As we honor Dr. King today, let's recommit ourselves to building a future full of equal opportunities and dignity for all.
