This is vulnerable, but it feels important to share. I hope you’ll hear me out, Herbert.
I’m about to tell you what it’s like to run in one of the most important House races in the country while facing homophobic attacks from my MAGA opponent’s supporters. But if you don’t have time to read my entire message, I’m hoping you’ll chip in $15 before you go. I promise, I wouldn’t ask if it weren’t critical. My opponent has a massive warchest from far-right special interest donors, and frankly, if I can’t keep up with his fundraising, Democrats could lose our shot at taking back the House. Please, Herbert, can you be one of the 548 supporters I need to rush a $15 donation before midnight? >>
I always knew I wanted to have a family someday — but I thought marriage and fatherhood weren’t in the cards for me because I was gay.
I didn’t know a lot of people like me, and didn’t have a lot of examples to follow.
But I found the courage to come out of the closet to my family and was met with their love and acceptance on the other side.
And slowly but surely, I saw tides turn, rights won, and my community gaining more acceptance.
I’ll never forget the day gay marriage was legalized. Or the day my pastor father officiated my wedding!

So, watching this massive backslide has been staggering, heartbreaking, and terrifying.
Honestly, sometimes, I feel like I have whiplash.
My Republican opponent, Paul LePage, has made it clear where he stands:
→ He claims that marriage equality only passed in Maine because of voter fraud
→ He vetoed a bill as Governor that would have banned conversion “therapy” targeting LGBTQ kids
→ He supported a law that allowed employers to legally fire a gay employee
And his supporters are falling right in line — hurling homophobic insults and bigoted attacks like these against me, my husband Jake, and even our one-year-old daughter.
It’s disgusting, Herbert, but hear me loud and clear: Paul LePage and his army of MAGA haters think their words can stop me from taking back the House for Democrats and advocating for families like mine. They’re dead wrong. So I need to ask you personally, right now, because rights for LGBTQ families like mine, all over the country, are on the line: Will you step up and rush $15 to close my fundraising gap and prove that Paul LePage’s hateful army is no match for our grassroots movement? I’ll never stop fighting to ensure every type of family has leaders that represent them in Congress, but the MAGA establishment rushed my opponent $917k to flip this seat red and send us marching backwards. I can’t win this pivotal seat and hand LePage a massive defeat without you. Will you rush in $15 before midnight? >>
Thank you, truly,
Jordan
