John,

Today, we honor the life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and I wanted to share a few thoughts and words as we come together to reflect on the legacy of a preacher who lived the words of Saint Francis: "Preach the gospel at all times. When necessary, use words."

Throughout his life, Dr. King stood against the status quo and was a leader in the long journey toward equality. At every turn, he remained steadfast in his faith and vision for a better United States.

Generations later, many in our country are still fighting for basic rights and access to the American dream. At the same time, we've seen the Trump administration target those who are most vulnerable in our society. From lack of access to affordable healthcare to injustice at the ballot box, we must stand with them in these fights to ensure a brighter future for us all.

In times like this, we must remember: Dr. King said that "change does not roll in on the wheels of inevitability." Forward progress only comes with consistent, intentional action.

Change will never come about if we sit back and allow others to carry the burden of labor; our actions have power, and even extending a kind helping hand to our fellow human beings makes a difference.

Thank you,

Chris
