Delaware Democrats,
Today, we honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., who gave his life to help move our country closer to its promise of becoming “a more perfect union.” Through courage, faith, and tireless organizing, Dr. King built a broad coalition committed to freedom, equality, and justice, paving the way for progress that continues to shape our nation.
Dr. King reminded us that meaningful change requires courage, compassion, and an unwavering commitment to justice, even when the path forward feels difficult or uncertain.
Today, more than ever, we are witnessing a presidential administration determined to erode the democratic values and moral principles that Dr. King stood for. In this moment of uncertainty and unprecedented harm, his words ring as true as ever: “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere…Whatever affects one directly affects all indirectly.”
Honoring Dr. King’s legacy means more than remembering his words; it means living them. It means standing up for one another, speaking out against injustice, and refusing to remain silent when our values are under attack.
Here in Delaware, we know the power of organizing and coalition-building. From our neighborhoods to our polling places, Delaware Democrats have always understood that progress happens when we show up for one another and stay engaged, even when the work is hard.
On this MLK Day, let us recommit ourselves to service, to organizing, and to protecting the democratic ideals Dr. King fought for. While we still have work to do, and progress to reclaim, we move forward together with purpose, hope, and an unshakable belief in a more just and equitable future for Delaware and our nation.
