John— today, we honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., whose unwavering commitment to justice, equality, and nonviolence helped move our nation closer to its founding ideals.
Dr. King reminded us that “the time is always right to do what is right.” His words continue to challenge each of us to confront injustice, stand up for civil rights, and work toward a society where opportunity and dignity are available to all. At a time when his most treasured legacy—the Voting Rights Act—is hanging by a thread at the Supreme Court, his words are more relevant than ever.
Martin Luther King Jr. Day is not only a time for reflection, but also a day of service. I encourage everyone to find ways—big or small—to give back to their communities and help build the more just and inclusive nation Dr. King envisioned.
As we reflect on his legacy, may we recommit ourselves to the values of fairness, respect, and unity, and to the belief that together, we can continue bending the arc of our nation toward justice.
Sincerely,
Joe Courtney
