Friend —
As recent actions have shown, the world has entered a new
phase shift where the bestial law of “might makes right” has trampled
any notion of international law. The Trump administration’s apparent
willingness to take a “FAFO” approach to the Western
Hemisphere—reinforced by comments from advisors such as Stephen Miller
implying that the United States should run Venezuela simply because it
can—would have the Founding Fathers rolling in their graves.
The American Revolution was rooted not only in the rejection
of tyranny, imperialism, and despotism, but in the conviction that
“all men are created equal,” endowed with unalienable rights to “Life,
Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness,” and that a world governed by
those principles is truly possible. They believed that the
individual's greatest value is the beauty of his or her mind as a
force for good in the world, not the amount of power or strength that
one can wield to achieve his desires.
The irony of today is that, even though the United States is
ripping up the system of international law and declaring war on much
of the world, the non-Western part of the world is defending those
anti-imperial traditions of the Founding Fathers. They are even
breaking away from the neocolonial financial systems which have been
the largest source of enforced underdevelopment for
decades.
As we prepare to celebrate Martin Luther King Day
tomorrow—who himself should rightfully be considered one of America's
Founding Fathers—let us take this opportunity to recall those better
traditions upon which our nation was founded.
Lyndon LaRouche said the following about Martin Luther King
during a 2004 celebration of his life:
The only way you can renew a nation—as Martin made a great
contribution to renewing the United States—is, you have to go to the
forgotten man and woman, especially to the “have-nots,” and if you can
express a loving attitude, toward the problem of the have-nots, those
who are the lower side of life—then, you are capable of representing
the principle, upon which modern government should be based. The same
principle that Jeanne d’Arc made possible, in a sense, in her
contribution to the emergence of France as the first modern
nation-state, committed to the general welfare.
If you want to be a true politician, you must be committed to
the general welfare. You must be committed to mankind. And to be
committed to mankind, is to look at the person who’s in the worst
condition, in general—and uplift them! Then, you really have proven,
that you care about the general welfare. If you don’t go to those
people, you’re not with the general welfare. If you don’t have your
roots in a fight for the general welfare, you’re not capable of
leading our nation, which is a nation Constitutionally committed to
the general welfare.
Martin had that.

Day 2026: Reason, Or Nonexistence?
We are faced with a similar
situation as the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King when he said: “The choice
is no longer between violence and nonviolence. The choice we are
confronted with today is the choice between nonviolence and
nonexistence.”
In this week's Fireside Chat,
speakers Dennis Speed and Bill Jones took up this question and
reviewed the situation the world faces today.
