![]() Hey, it’s Emilia Sykes, You may be wondering how this little girl here… ended up here: Before we go back to the beginning, I have a very important ask of you, John. MAGA Republicans and their billionaire donors are already trying to buy this seat and flip OH-13. Will you please chip in $10 right now to protect OH-13 from MAGA Republicans and keep up the fight for working families? I was born and raised in Akron, Ohio, in a family where public service wasn’t a slogan — it was a responsibility. My parents taught me early on that showing up for your community matters. My mother became the first Black woman ever elected to the Akron City Council and later served as President of the Ohio Legislative Black Caucus. My father served over 20 years in the Ohio General Assembly. Between them, my parents have dedicated more than 50 years to public service — and through their example, I learned that leadership means listening, fighting for people who don’t always have a voice, and never forgetting where you come from. Outside of school, I spent most of my childhood in a gym or a dance studio. I trained as a ballerina, competed in gymnastics, and even made it to the AAU Junior Olympics as a national final on vault. Those years taught me discipline, resilience, and how to get back up after a fall — lessons I still rely on every day. I went on to attend Kent State University, graduating with high honors and a degree in Psychology. Later, I earned my degree from the University of Florida, along with a Juris Doctor with a Certificate in Family Law and a Master's in Public Health.
After school, I worked as a law clerk for the Chief Judge of the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in the Northern District of Georgia. I later returned home to serve as an administrative advisor in the Summit County Fiscal Office — because Ohio has always been where my heart is. A few years ago, I married the love of my life — another public servant who supports me, grounds me, and makes me a better person and a better Representative every single day. In 2022, I ran for Congress in Ohio’s 13th District — and won. I defeated my Republican opponent despite a barrage of attack ads and outside money trying to tear me down. Since taking office, I’ve secured over $200 million in federal investments for the district and returned over $11 million directly to constituents. I’ve worked to be an advocate for my community, even when gridlock makes it nearly impossible to get laws passed. So, this all leads to me today. Seeking re-election this upcoming November. I’m fighting to lower costs, create good-paying union jobs, grow our local economy, keep our communities safe, protect reproductive freedom, safeguard Social Security and Medicare, defend clean air and water, and ensure access to affordable health care and quality education. I’m ready to continue serving Ohioans in the United States House of Representatives — but I can’t do it without you. If you’re with me, please consider contributing to my campaign today. We can’t give this seat up.
Your support means more than you know. Thank you for believing in me and in this work. Emilia |
