Winter can be a rough season for many folks. The cold weather, snow, and lack of sunlight are enough to deal with, but for LGBTQ+ young people it can be even more difficult.

More time spent inside can lead to a greater sense of isolation, an inability to escape unsupportive environments, or heightened exposure to the negative headlines.

According to our 2024 U.S. National Survey, 39% of LGBTQ+ youth considered suicide last year; 12% attempted. Not only that, but half of the LGBTQ+ youth from the same survey reported that they wanted mental health care, but couldn’t get it. These numbers depict real mental health struggles that can be worsened this time of the year.

Winter weighs heavy, but you and the LGBTQ+ young people we serve are not alone. If you, or someone you know, are struggling this winter, please check out and share our short guide with mental health tips to help.

Through this season and the rest of the year, we will be here to support and advocate for LGBTQ+ young people. If you or someone you know needs someone to speak to and lean on, our trained mental health counselors are available 24/7/365 to help ([link removed] ?c_src=UMCOM260110340&c_src2=dt-20260117-FY26-JanuaryNewsletter-NonActiveDonors-mc-31f4d92992&utm_medium=marketingcommunication(i.e.e-newsletter)&utm_source=emailsegment-notpreviousdonors/activists1&utm_campaign=generaleffort) .
