Far too many Americans are struggling to make rent or find a home they can
afford, John.

One of the key reasons is that there just isn’t enough affordable housing
— not in California and not around the country. This nation needs a
housing boom — housing that is affordable, that meets the needs of working
families; middle-income housing, low-income housing — we need it all.

That’s why I introduced the Housing BOOM Act. We don’t need incremental
policy changes. We need a massive investment. We need another housing boom
in America.

This bill would make a huge new investment in building affordable homes
for middle-income and lower-income families, to make it possible for young
people to own a home or be able to pay their rent.

We need to bring urgency to the construction of vast numbers of new homes.
And ensure that the workers who build that housing can live in the
communities where they work. Nothing less will address the crisis of
housing unaffordability in America.

affordable, especially so that families can have a place to live and call
