![]() Friend, This week five years ago, then-Speaker Nancy Pelosi named me as an impeachment manager for the second impeachment of Donald Trump following the January 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol. I never thought I would be sitting in the House gallery when insurrectionists surrounded the chambers — motivated and infected by dangerous lies — hoping to assassinate Speaker Pelosi, hang Vice President Mike Pence, and hunt down members of Congress, their staff, and reporters. It was clear to me that this tragedy must have consequences. It was a sad and solemn duty — and yet a high honor — to hold the president accountable for his part in the insurrection; to indict him for his high crimes against our country. And I continue to demand accountability from the president and his enablers. Unfortunately, Donald Trump and his allies have only gotten bolder in their threats against our democracy and the rule of law.
