Dear Friends,
Happy New Year! Congress is back to work in Washington, and I am continuing to fight to lower skyrocketing health care costs and ensure everyone can access the care they need. Last week, 17 House Republicans joined Democrats to extend the Affordable Care Act tax credits 20 million Americans rely on. We had the votes to pass this bill at the end of the year, but Republicans shamefully decided to leave town early for the holidays, allowing these critical tax credits to expire.
It’s now up to the Senate to take action and send this bill to the President’s desk to grant families the relief they need. In the wealthiest nation in the world, no one should have to choose between health care and paying the rent.
Watch my remarks urging the Senate to take action.
While we keep fighting to extend the expired health care tax credits, the State of Connecticut is offering financial assistance to help bridge the gap.
- Open enrollment for Access Health CT plans has been extended to January 31st. To explore coverage options and find the plan that is right for you, visit AccessHealthCT.com or call 1-855-805-4325 for assistance.
- The State of Connecticut also announced it would cover some or all of the expiring federal enhanced premium tax credits for eligible Connecticut residents enrolled in health coverage through Access Health CT in 2026. To learn more about eligibility, click here.
Rising health care premiums and sky-high prescription drug costs are squeezing families everywhere. When we passed the Inflation Reduction Act in 2022, we empowered Medicare to negotiate drug prices directly for the first time, saving seniors more than $1 billion annually. On January 1st, the first ten negotiated drug prices went into effect. This includes medications for diabetes and Rheumatoid Arthritis. Now, I’m working to pass the Lowering Drug Costs for American Families Act to extend these savings to all Americans and rein in pharmaceutical price gouging.
I’ll continue to fight to lower your health care costs and protect access to quality care. To follow what I’m working on both in Washington and in Connecticut, visit my Facebook page, follow me on Twitter, or follow me on Instagram.
Regards,
John B. Larson
