The last week has made it clearer than ever that what happens right here in Kansas could determine the House majority:

FIRST: Donald Trump issued a decree to Republicans here in Kansas and all across the country, demanding an unprecedented mid-decade redistricting push to gerrymander Democrats like Sharice Davids out of office.

THEN: The Kansas GOP obliged. They worked around the clock — even setting aside $460,000 in taxpayer funds to hold a special legislative session focused exclusively on gerrymandering.

NOW: We’re in the middle of a second redistricting battle… after the Kansas GOP’s plan to hold a special session fell flat on its face.

We wish we could say there was a silver lining, and that Democrats are guaranteed to take back the House no matter what happens here in Kansas. But we can’t. So we need to fight this gerrymander like the future of Kansas — and the future of our country — depends on it.

Because it could.
