John — this is ridiculous.

Republicans have control of both houses of our General Assembly. They have the responsibility to use that control to keep our state government running. But throughout all of 2025, they didn’t get a budget deal done. Now, 2026 is here, and lawmakers still haven’t passed a budget to fund the agencies and services that North Carolinians rely on.

Our state budget determines resources for public schools, pay raises for public servants including teachers and law enforcement officers, health care funding, and more. Every day that North Carolina operates without a new budget, our communities lose out on the opportunities that they need to thrive.
