John,

After a week when the Iranian regime viciously repressed Iranian protesters – killing as many as 20,000 by some accounts – there is so much uncertainty about how or if the United States will respond.

This we can say for certain: the No Labels community stands with the brave Iranian people demanding a better future. To stand in solidarity with them does not require endorsing a specific military or other action against the Iranian regime, which was being discussed in the White House and across Washington this week.

It just requires you to embrace the long bipartisan tradition of Americans supporting people around the world seeking freedom or fleeing dictatorship. That was certainly the worldview of the late No Labels founding chairman Senator Joe Lieberman, and it remains the view of No Labels today.

As No Labels did with Venezuela last week, our policy team is working to help our members understand the unfolding crisis in Iran from many different angles, and I want to share their excellent work here.

Here are primers on:

- How Iran’s inflation and collapsing currency sparked the largest protests in Iran since the 1979 revolution. ([link removed] )

- How Iran’s multi-layered security apparatus ruthlessly shuts down protests and protects the Islamic regime led by Ayatollah Khamenei.  ([link removed] )

- The origins of the Iranian regime’s “Death to America” chants and how it is used to distract from their own failures.  ([link removed] )

- How the War Powers Act has been politicized under both Democratic and Republican presidents.  ([link removed] )

Our work to keep you informed on the latest out of Iran will continue next week when we will be hosting an exclusive call with two of America’s leading experts on Iran. Join us on Tuesday, January 20 at 3:00 PM for a Zoom conversation with Jim Hanson and Benjamin Baird of the Middle East Forum for a conversation about how Iran is brutally repressing its own people while sowing chaos in the Middle East, and what could come next.

The Iran crisis has profound implications for the future of the Middle East and, most importantly, for the safety and security of the American people. As events unfold, we hope you will keep coming to No Labels for unbiased information and insights that reflect the voice of America’s commonsense majority.

Sincerely,

Ryan Clancy

Chief Strategist
