Email from Rep. Nehls Rep. Troy E. Nehls Questions Witnesses at Hearing   Greetings! I wanted to take a moment to share with you a recap of what happened last week in Texas' 22nd District and the United States House of Representatives. This Week in Washington D.C. Rep. Troy E. Nehls Questions Witnesses at First January 6th Select Subcommittee Hearing This week, the Select Subcommittee on January 6th held its first hearing. As a member of this select subcommittee, I explained to the American people why the new January 6th Select Subcommittee is necessary. The committee assembled by former Speaker Nancy Pelosi was a sham from the start. Its purpose should have been to examine the security failures that led to the breach of the Capitol and ensure it never happens again, but that’s not what it did. Instead, it set out to destroy President Donald Trump by pushing the false narrative that he orchestrated a violent insurrection. The previous January 6th committee spent $18 million of taxpayer money and produced an 845-page report that failed to do its job. Despite Ray Epps’ actions on January 6th, and despite him being listed as number 16 on the FBI's January 6th most wanted page for months, his name appears zero times in the previous committee's report. Meanwhile, President Trump’s name appears 4,207 times. During the hearing, I highlighted the previous committee's failures and discussed the real reasons the U.S. Capitol Police were really so ill-prepared on the day of January 6, 2021 and how the previous FBI focused on arresting President Trump's supporters, not the pipe bomber whose actions could've resulted in the death or severe injuries of many people, including the Vice President-elect of the United States. Under the leadership of Chris Wray, the former FBI Director, the FBI had all the evidence it needed as far back as 2021, yet the person who planted pipe bombs outside both party headquarters was never apprehended until Kash Patel took over as the FBI Director. It's important to emphasize that Patel's FBI did not get any new information in order to find the pipe bomber. The evidence they needed to identify the pipe bomber was in the possession of Wray's FBI for nearly the entire time of the Biden Administration. The January 6th investigation was the largest investigation in FBI history, yet when it comes to the pipe bomber, there was shockingly little urgency to find the person responsible until President Trump's FBI took over. The Wray FBI focused on pursuing and charging nearly 1,600 individuals in all 50 states, including elderly individuals who committed no acts of violence whatsoever, instead of focusing on who planted the RNC and DNC pipe bombs. This week's hearing is the first of many hearings to come, and we will continue following the facts wherever they lead and uncover the truth about what actually happened on January 6, 2021. Nehls Attends House Judiciary Committee Markup This week, I attended the House Judiciary Committee markup, where several bills advanced through the committee, including: H.R. 6998, the Renewed Hope Act, which would enhance the capabilities of Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) to identify unknown victims of child sex abuse material (CSAM) by requiring the hiring, training, and assignment of additional computer forensics and criminal analysts to the Child Exploitation Investigations Unit and HSI field offices. H.R. 2853, the Combatting Organized Retail Crime Act, which would amend Title 18 to let federal prosecutors charge for stolen goods valued at $5,000 or more over 12 months. It broadens the definition of "monetary instrument" in money laundering laws to include prepaid and gift cards. The legislation also enhances federal judges' power to order asset forfeiture related to interstate stolen goods and establishes a Center to Combat Organized Retail and Supply Chain Crime within Homeland Security Investigations (HSI). I'm proud to be an original cosponsor of this legislation. H.R. 1028, the Protection of Women in Olympic and Amateur Sports Act, which would prohibit any athletic governing body recognized by the U.S. Olympic Committee from allowing men to participate in any athletic event intended for women. I'm a proud original cosponsor of this commonsense legislation. H.R. 1958, the Deporting Fraudsters Act of 2026, which would deem illegal aliens who commit fraud against taxpayers or unlawfully receive public benefits inadmissible and removable from the U.S., establishing grounds for deportation and ineligibility for immigration relief for those convicted of such offenses. Together, these bills send a clear message that we must protect children from exploitation, hold illegal aliens accountable, defend women’s sports, and stop the theft of taxpayer dollars. Rep. Troy E. Nehls Votes “YES” to End the War on Water Pressure This week, I voted “YES” to pass H.R. 4593, the Saving Homeowners from Overregulation With Exceptional Rinsing (SHOWER) Act to restore commonsense for everyday household products and give homeowners more choices. Importantly, the SHOWER Act codifies one of President Trump's executive actions from April 2025, which ends the Democrats' war on water pressure. In 2016, under the leadership of the Trump Administration, the Department of Energy (DOE) rightly clarified that each nozzle in a multi-head shower system could be treated as a separate showerhead, each allowed to flow at up to 2.5 gallons per minute (GPM), in line with the original intent of the 1992 Energy Policy Act. In 2021, the Biden Administration reversed course, reimplementing a stricter interpretation that limited the combined flow of all nozzles in a system to 2.5 GPM—hindering water pressure and restricting consumer choice. The SHOWER Act ensures that no future administration can instate a burdensome regulation that restricts the amount of water pressure that flows from each nozzle in a multi-head shower system. This provides certainty for manufacturers, improves water flow for consumers, and keeps prices down by allowing companies to design products without constantly having to accommodate shifting federal regulations. Americans should be able to choose their shower system, not the government. Rep. Troy E. Nehls Votes “YES” to Secure $3.25 Million for Projects in TX-22 I am proud to announce that last week, I voted “YES” to pass H.R. 6938, the Commerce, Justice, Science; Energy and Water Development; and Interior and Environment Appropriations Act of 2026, which includes $3.25 million in federal funding for four projects right here in Texas’ 22nd Congressional District. These funds will go directly to organizations that support our families, protect children, and strengthen our local economy. The funding will support Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Oyster Research, which will drive the growth of the Texas oyster aquaculture industry. It will also support Big Brothers Big Sisters Lone Star Greater Houston Agency (BBBS), creating and supporting mentor relationships that empower our community’s youth and uplift those in need. The funding secured in this package will also go to Child Advocates of Fort Bend and the Fort Bend Women’s Center. These organizations provide critical services for children and families affected by abuse, neglect, and human trafficking, including counseling, court advocacy, and lifesaving support. The federal funds will benefit these organizations and those in need for years to come.
